I wonder
what engine the 1600 that run in the 2000 Targa had in it - rumour has it
that it got disqualified on some technicality anyway.

I spoke to some of the targa competitors in the car club about this.
They told me he had coil over shocks on the back, 240k brakes up front and a
few other things. Engine only an L18 with su's and he was running in std
production class. Apparently if he ran in limited modification class he
would have won that class and not been disqualified.

Malcolm,
I think Nissan lost the plot a bit on the H510 series. I'm sure the car that
was in Canberra was a 4 door sedan but it looks like I was 1ps out with the
engine power btw what's a ps? Japanese horse power? as most other Datsun
1600 plates have bhp which we all understand.

The 2 door sedan was definitely produced in RHD in some markets but afaik
only with the L13 engine (Eric has one) it was called just a 510 as the base
model had the L13 but the body number should have another letter as the base
body was 4 doors. I can't recall what the prefix for the L14 model was, but
P as we all know was the L16 and H was the L18, K was for Coupe. 4 doors
didn't have a body code, but the 2 door sedan has a code but what it was
just escapes me? T maybe? and there was a U code for something that also
escapes me.

I wouldn't have thought CAMS would fall for a P510 being regd as a H510 so
you could race/rally in PRC classes with a L20B engine but it seems that you
can get away with it these days in some places. I spoke to a dude here
recently when I was chasing a roll cage that's done it and he seems to not
have a problem other than being a complete prick that is but that's another
story, I seem to have upset him with something I said at the time. I wonder
what engine the 1600 that run in the 2000 Targa had in it - rumour has it
that it got disqualified on some technicality anyway.

regards
Terry

Terry,
I think I'm 100% right to say---??
Only the coupe got the L18 in the 510 ,and yes He's right it is a
KH510.But in fact the body tag is stamped H510-005271 well thats the one
I have seen and the engine line on the tag read 1770cc 115ps@6000Rpm.

To say the 4 door has a L18 and its called a H510 is only to fool the
race people so they can get away with it.
The RHD parts book lists all 4 door and wagon 510's 1967-72 ,with
L13,L14,L16 if they used the L18 it would be in the book they wrote
about the car, since my copy is the last primted copy printed in 1973.
Does this also mean that the 2 door sedan was only LHD,This would also
piont to this, and if it wasn't right they would have made RHD 510SSS 2
door sedans,but they didn't.
Malcolm
