Hey Andrew,
After reading your Email an idea struck me. If the engine is
idling Ok but is suffering under load, and you think it's not fuel pressure
or ignition, then maybie you should check the air flow meter operation. If
it's not well, then the ECU won't be able to determine the correct amount of
fueling required under load. If you can get your hands on a oxygen sensor
bar graph meter, (Jaycar Electronics are selling them in kit form for around
$60 - good value!) so that you can determine whether or not fueling is
running too lean. Also check you oxy sensor by putting a multimeter across
it and ground making sure its output voltage is between 0(lean) and 1(rich)
volt. Do you know what type of air flow meter you have? Is it a thermo
resistive type, or flap type? Either of these can be prone to aging where
the heater in the thermo resistive may be damaged or the potentiometer in
the flap type my be worn.(just a couple of possibilities) You can put a
multimeter on the output pin of the airflow meter and see if the output
voltage varies with respect to airflow.(usually between 0 and 5
Volts.....but I'm not sure of the Z18 type)
Good luck!!
George
