I'm one for the standard hight suspension, not necessarily with standard
shocks or springs. You are too limited as to where you can take a lowered
car, and Datto's are fantastic for dirt driving. You just cant do dirt
roads in a seriously lowered car, your likely to pull the sump off on a
cattle grid or hole it with a loose rock.

Speaking of dirt driving, I took a work colleague, a new arrival from the
UK, down the Dargo High Plains Road on our way home from a job at
Cassillis/Omeo last week. He couldn't believe a stock VT Commodore could
handle rough roads at speed. He hasn't stopped talking about how tough
Australian built cars are since the trip. He says a current British built
car would have shaken apart on the this road and he thought only 4WD's could
have used this road. (Emphasised by a few 4WD drivers who looked very
surprised as we passed them on this trip). The VT hasn't got one rattle or
creak in it, despite this trip and plenty of previous gravel roads and creek
crossings.

Despite having an enjoyable trip, which my colleague videoed for his folks
back home, (he filmed some quick driving in the tight stuff, cattle looming
up rapidly, and a lyrebird) he says the folks in the UK will never believe
this was a work day - but he didn't drive the 750 ks. as well as do the job.

I explained to him how the same trip in a Datto would be far more memorable,
with fair dinkum tail out slides through the bends and lots of engine noise
due to the engine running up to 6 grand, for hours - very different to the
almost lounge room silence of the auto VT, even when punching it along.
The silence was interrupted only by the ALB's banging when pushed hard into
the tighter bends, and the swish when hitting pools of water - it was
seriously wet.
