Yeah, the US 810 has an L24E from the factory (early ones are an "810" and
late badged as a "Maxima") but it also has a much longer front end to
acomodate it. I had a look at one of these a couple of weeks ago when I went
to the States and it's a good bit different to the 4 cylinder version.
However that's not to say it wouldn't still fit. I have a friend here with
an L28T in an A10 (Stanza there).
I also have a friend with an FJ20 in an 810 which was an easy fit. The
mounts needed very small alterations and the gearbox bolted in. I believe
that even the tailshaft fitted okay.
I have tried to get a VG30 into an 810 but it really doesn't fit without a
lot of cutting. It interferes with the steering unless you cut the bulkhead
and move it right back.
I reckon turbo is the only way you're gonna get the power you are looking
for.
