I understood that nissan spent megabucks developing the FJ24DET for racing or rallying or something then couldn't actually use it so they reworked it into the FJ20DET for production cars? According to ZOOM: "the SR's factory weakness prevents reliable power figures at more than 420hp from being obtained without the risk of the block cracking." Thats apparently y JUN use liners for the cylinders to prevent this. Doubt u'd have that problem with FJ's.

They were one of the better motors nissan made, but due the number of moving parts they were more costly so they moved to the SR20. The FJ's are twin cam 16 valve and were originally a racing/rally motor and I think were the toughest motor Nissan ever made. -----Original Message----- From: James Marmont [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 05/12/2001 12:36 To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: FJ20 - max power i have heard fjs have more potential, but arent they either twincam 8 valve or singlecam 12 valve(not sure which) i know srs are a "square" engine, meaning they have(from memory) 83mm bore and 83mm stroke also even the naturally aspirated ones have a solid forged crank these two points alone make them a great engine, but every one whos owned one would know that fjs are supposed to be pretty good too, i just dont know as much about them does anyone know whats supposed to be so great about ca18dets? besides being a nissan -----Original Message----- From: Mark Alford [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, 5 December 2001 11:54 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: FJ20 - max power No - this one was a white pearl finish, but did have momo wheels, with 35 series tyres. The answer of course was " Are you planning on winning Lotto?" Of course I lied to him and told him I was! (Doesn't everyone plan for that day?) I am now curios to find out what people are getting out of both the Turbo's and naturally aspirated FJ's and even SR's. Might be a good topic for discussion?? Anyone out there got any stories (preferably true) that they could share.
