Couple of reasons they got bigger. In the seventies it was just what people wanted - big family cars - The kind of thing you could go caravaning in, you didn't even really need a caravan. Petrol cost what like 9c a litre so chewing through 5 litres of fuel at start up wasn't a big deal. The charger only weighed like 1500KG so it wasn't all that heavy. A VT commodore weighs in heavier than a 71 to 82 Valiant which I found very interesting, Youd think with smaller body and better technology they'd have made them lighter.
I was wrong on my quarter mile times - this is out of a 72 Modern Motor Magazine Vehicle VH Charger E49 Falcon GT Monaro HQ GTS Engine Capacity (cu.in.[litres]) 265 [4.3] 351 [5.7] 350 [5.7] Power@rpm (bhp) 302@5600 300@5400 275@4800 Torque@rpm (Nm) 320@4100 380@3400 360@3200 0-60 mph (sec) 6.1 7.7 9.3 1/4 mile (sec) 14.4 15.1 15.3 > -----Original Message----- > From: Paul Stanley [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: 13 December 2002 8:35 > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: My SSS pics uploaded correctly > > I never knew about 4 door and 2 door... thanks for pointing that out... > they > were all barges with wheels back then (hope I don't offend anyone :)... > Why > were the earlier Valiants 1200kg (like the VC) and the later 70s ones were > like tanks? > > From: Paul Stanley > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: andrew smith <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Thursday, December 12, 2002 10:30 PM > Subject: Re: My SSS pics uploaded correctly > > > > The GTHO was the fastest 4 door.As the charger had 2 doors there was > plenty of > > faster stuff made. > > > > Paul Stanley wrote: > > > > > I thought it was the Charger?
