Jack up the body and place it on stands so the suspension hangs.  Then
shake the joint by moving the wheel inward and out ward while looking at
the ball joint.  There should be no movement or clunks.  Similarly, by
moving each front wheel left and right you can check for wear in the
steering ball joints (tie rod ends)
