LOL - YES you are right i just thought better fuel how can that be a problem ??????

stupid stupid stupid

Ive only had the Datto a couple of months so havent been many places with it yet
I came second in my class which shows how slow the competition was cause my car is pretty stock

the fuel filter is nearly new - valvoline one i think
& I ran 2 tanks of valvoline carbie & injector cleaner recently so would think no more crap to clean up, but u never know the optimax may clean up much better than the bottled stuff

Saturday was fun - its always fun as long as you dont break the car even if u come last

The next hillclimb at mt cotton is in december
there were 2 white 1600's & a blue one at qld raceway on the weekend

cheers n beers Jeff

And therein lies the lesson Jeff
Don't run stuff on raceday that u haven't already tried beforehand. I have mucked up so many racedays over the years from doing things like that.
My experience with Optimax in my Datto was exactly the same as Terry described. Once the grunge cleared out it was fine. I wouldn't use Optimax in Qld now tho cos it varies way too much. On one tankful my engine will ping and on the next it wont....
I use Unleaded round town and Ultimate for cruises, trips and racing. I've never seen this Mobil 8000 but on Terry's say so, if its available I would certainly give it a go.
Did u have fun anyway?
Any other Dattos there?
Drop a note to the list before the weekend when u are racing cos sometimes Ozdatters may be able to come and watch. Have u had a run at Morgan Park yet?
Cheers
Mick

Mobil 8000 is definitely in my opinion the pick of the fuels - we don't have it here but I got some on the Hume Hwy a few weeks back and it burns much smoother than any of the others in my engine, Optimax & BP Ultimate is the same fuel in the ACT or at least it used to be. These fuels will block filters etc when you first use them after Super or LRP as the cleaning agents will dislodge any grunge in the fuel system.

Terry

Sounds like you may have dislodged some crap inside the tank. I haven`t heard of Optimax causing starving problems (but have heard that it can damage rubber hoses/components).

Drain the tank and blow out the lines with compressed air ( just make sure you disconnect hose from carby end), replace the fuel filter and try again.

If you want the best filtration use a metal cased filter to suit an EFI system. These filter down a lot further than the normal fuel filters. I used one on my old race car with twin 45`s and the bowls were always spotless.

I prefer to use Mobil 8000 or BP Ultimate down here in Vic myself.
