On my 97, the rear support of my HDHCDD was constantly in contact with my stock
seat unless I scooted forward.  I prefer a surprisingly upright position for a
leggy 6'1" driver, so it wasn't a big deal, but I was far enough back still
that banging my head on the side of the main hoop (or the rear support) is only
a good side or rear impact away.  With my race seat installed, the top of the
seat was always in contact with the rear support and forced me to drive
knees-high.  At least my seated position was low:

I've got an NB HDHC, non-HT (HT bar didn't exist for NB when I bought
it). It doesn't impact my seat travel at all (well, it didn't when I
had the stock seat in the car, the Recaros that I have it now don't
travel at all).

It really depends on how you like to sit. Personally, I kept the seat
fully upright any time I was driving -- I just don't understand how
people can drive with their seat reclined. :)
