Yeah, It's impossible to achieve a ghetto driving position in a Miata unless
you are about 4 feet tall. I hardly consider the max recline for anyone over
5'10 excessive, it's just not the track driving position. Also, most find
it nice to be able to relax the seating position on long trips.

Essentially, I'm no crash safety expert. I'm just in the process of
gathering info about what is dangerous and what is considered safe. If the
hard core bar with SFI padding is considered safe regardless of the
potential for head impact during a crash, then I'm not going to worry about
it. As someone posted earlier, most passenger cars have interior components
that your head could impact with during certain collision circumstances.
These components are about as hard as the SFI padding. Admittedly, this
would not be a pleasant impact, but crashing is rarely a pleasant
experience. It is also probably worth considering that an impact with an
object designed to "interact" with a human head could be better than the
whip lash effects/neck injuries associated with collisions when the head is
unrestricted. (ie concussion vs severe neck injury); but that's speculation
on my part.

Well I am sure I am not into the getto driving position, but in my 90 with
the HDHCHT, which is supost to be back farther than the HDHC bar, I could
very easally get wacked on the head with the stock seat in any hit from the
rear of the car. I think the best solution might be 1 a very hard real
padding, designed to spread the hit over the total compression distance of
the pad (this varies greatly), and 2 a seat which could cover the upper
areas back of the head, which the stock seat is too low to provide for me.
Don't know what seat might either might lower the driver below the bar, or
the seat back be higher to help cover up the bar. I think either would be an
improvement. As it is, a rear hit would be unpleasant at best. Perhaps an
adjustable headrest would be a great addition.

Well since I don't really consider driving with the seat fully reclined in a
ghetto driving position to be proper driving posture I guess I never
considered this as restricting the travel of the seat.

I have an older (1999-ish) HDHC in my NA. I bought it for the height as I'm
6'4". "Travel" is unrestricted however, "recline" is marginally restricted
with the seat to the rear.

You can stop reading now, or read on for more information.

I've said it over and over again, there *are* seat fitment issues with this
bar. My complaints to one of the online HD vendors forced a change in their
advertised warning of fitment (however, I kept the bar and did not ask for
any sort of a refund). Fore/Aft travel is unrestricted, but my position is
one click foreward of all the way to the rear and the rear of the seat
perfectly flush with the bulkhead. In this position there is significant
contact with the bar, so much so that I have worn away the vinyl and foam
and and am on bare metal of the headrest against the bar.

I have 4 different versions of the HDHC bars in my 4 cars. I don?t see any
seat travel issues with them and I?m not really sure I?m going to worry
about hitting the bar in a crash. Before I hit the bar I would think I
would have other things to be worrying about.
