1956 – The Platters record “Winner Takes All” and “(You’ve Got) The
Magic Touch” at Mercury Sound Studio in New York City.
1957 – Lionel Hampton debuts his four-part symphony, "King David," his
only major musical work, at New York's Town Hall.
1958 – CBS News' Walter Cronkite reports that the government of Iran
has banned rock and roll for being anti-Islamic and unhealthy: the
"unhealthy" claim being backed by Iranian doctors who warn of hip
damage due to "extreme gyrations."
1961 – The Platters sue Mercury Records for breach of contract in
Chicago, citing the record label's refusal to pay royalties for songs
on which leader Tony Williams does not sing lead.
1961 – The Beatles perform at a Valentine’s Day dance at the Cassanova
Club in Liverpool. A member of the audience films portions of their
performance - now known as the earliest film footage of the group -
who are still performing in their leather gear.
1965 – Chad & Jeremy appear as Nigel and Patrick in the “Patty Pits
Wits, Two Brits Hits” episode of The Patty Duke Show.

1972 – John and Yoko begin their first day as co-hosts on The Mike

1972 – Grease opens off-Broadway at the Eden Theatre in New York City,

2003 – Police recover stolen reel-to-reel studio recordings of The
Beatles’ “White” and Abbey Road albums in Australia after they are
advertised for sale in a Sydney newspaper. The recovery is part of
Operation Acetone, a worldwide investigation into the theft of
original Beatles tapes stolen from Abbey Road studios in London in
late 1969.
2004 – Former drummer for Judas Priest, Dave Holland, is jailed for
eight years for indecent assault and the attempted rape of a 17-year
old boy who has learning disabilities, and had been taking drum
lessons from Holland.
2008 – Oasis singer Liam Gallagher marries ex-All Saints singer Nicole
Appleton at a civil ceremony in London.
