1957 – Britain's first pop music program, Six-Five Special, debuts on
the BBC.
1959 – The Kingston Trio records “M.T.A.” at Capitol Studios in New
York City.
1960 – Johnny Cash records "Smiling Bill McCall" at Owen Bradley's
Quonset Hut studio in Nashville.
1960 – Annette Funicello and Johnny Rivers appear on American
Bandstand.
1962 – Bobby Vinton records “Roses Are Red (My Love).” The song
becomes a hit, which keeps Epic Records from dropping Vinton from

1971 – Hell's Angel Alan Passaro, the accused murderer of Altamont
concert-goer Meredith Hunter, sues The Rolling Stones for invasion of
privacy over their movie Gimme Shelter. Passaro will later be
acquitted of the murder.
1971 – Aretha Franklin records “Spanish Harlem,” with Dr. John on
keyboards.
1972 – Shirley Watts, wife of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, is
arrested at the Nice Airport for swearing and hitting customs
officials.
1972 – Rick Nelson begins his first ever tour of the UK.
1972 – Led Zeppelin makes their Australian live debut when they kick
off a six-date tour at the Subiaco Oval in Perth. Police battle over
500 fans who ram locked gates trying to get into the concert, while
4,000 others mill around outside the venue without tickets, spurring
local residents to jam police phone lines to complain about the noise.
1978 – The film ABBA – The Movie has its UK premiere at the Warner
Theatre in Leicester Square.
1984 – Jerry Lee Lewis surrenders to authorities for income tax
evasion. He is later acquitted.
1986 – Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson appear in the
made-for-TV movie, The Last Days Of Frank & Jesse James, on NBC.
1988 – Billy Vera receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
1990 – Ike Turner is sentenced to four years in prison at the minimum
security California Men's Colony in San Luis Obispo for eleven
separate cocaine-related offenses. He will serve 18 months. During his
incarceration, he and ex-wife Tina Turner are inducted into the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame.
1990 – Singer k.d. lang appears on the cover of the first issue of
Entertainment Weekly.
1993 – At London's Brit Awards, Rod Stewart invites former members of
his old band, Faces, onstage for an impromptu reunion. Original
members Ronnie Wood, Ian McLagan, and Kenney Jones join Stewart for
renditions of "Stay With Me" and "Sweet Little Rock And Roller," with
former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman sitting in for original Faces bassist
Ronnie Lane, who is ill with Multiple Sclerosis.
2002 – London police respond to a burglary call at the Hampstead home
of singer George Michael. After investigation, it is determined that
the thieves, who probably broke in on February 9, stole $140,000 worth
of jewelry, paintings and clothing, as well as Michael’s $114,000
Astin Martin sports car. Michael was away in L.A. at the time of the
theft.
2005 – Yusuf Islam, formerly Cat Stevens, wins two lawsuits again
British newspapers The Sunday Times and The Sun for printing articles
that he is involved in terrorism. Both newspapers apologize, promise
not to repeat the allegations, and pay his legal bills.
2006 – Elton John wins his defamation lawsuit against British
newspaper The Sunday Times after the paper repeatedly runs reports
that John appeared at a charity ball and acted rude, self-important
and arrogant.
