1953 – Perry Como records "No Other Love" at Manhattan Center in New
York City for RCA.
1956 – The Lonnie Donegan Skiffle Group makes their U.S. television
debut on The Perry Como Show, performing "Rock Island Line."
1956 – Roy Orbison re-releases "Ooby Dooby," this time as an A-side
and under his own name, with "Go, Go, Go (Down The Line)" as the B-
side on Sun Records.
1957 – Tommy Sands appears on The Ed Sullivan Show, performing
"Teenage Crush" and "Goin' Steady." Other musical guests include Rise
Stevens and Julie Wilson.
1958 – The first single recorded on an 8-track console, Bobby Darin's
"Splish Splash" b/w "Judy Don't Be Moody," is released on Atco
Records.
1958 – Peggy Lee records "Fever" at Capitol Studios in Hollywood.
1959 – Jerry Wallace records "Primrose Lane" and “By Your Side” at
Radio Recorders in Hollywood.
1960 – Alan Freed and seven other DJs are formally charged in the
Payola scandal for accepting more than $30,000 from six different

1960 – The Drifters record "Save The Last Dance For Me," “Nobody But

1963 – The Beatles appear at the Gaumont Cinema in Stoke-on-Trent on
the second night of their tour with Roy Orbison. During the show,
three female fans climb a ladder to get through a window to meet to
the group backstage. The girls are caught and no charges are filed.
1965 – The FBI visits Wand Records to investigate the lyrics of The
Kingsmen's "Louie Louie."
1965 – The Zombies, Ray Charles, Dinah Lee, The Righteous Brothers,
Bobby Sherman, Donna Loren, Joe Williams, The Wellingtons, George Soul
and The Blossoms all appear on Shindig! Also on the show is Glen
Campbell, performing his new single, “Guess I’m Dumb.”
1966 – Country singer Eddy Arnold makes his stage debut at Carnegie
Hall.
1967 – Brian Epstein hosts a dinner party for The Beatles and select
journalists to preview the group's new album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely
Hearts Club Band.
1968 – The 5th Dimension appears on The Ed Sullivan Show, singing
"Stoned Soul Picnic" and “On Broadway.” Also on the show are Joel Grey
and The West Point Glee Club.
1971 – Elvis Presley records "Miracle Of The Rosary," "Seeing Is
Believing," "It's Still Here," "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen"
and "I Will Be True" at RCA Studios in Nashville.
1973 – Colonel Tom Parker and Vernon Presley contact Los Angeles
attorney Ed Hookstratten to look into who is supplying Elvis with
drugs.
1973 – Paul Simon's song "Kodachrome" hits the Billboard Hot 100.
1975 – The Eagles release their single, "One Of These Nights" b/w

1976 – Keith Richards falls asleep while driving and crashes his car
near Newport Pagnell in Bucks, and is arrested for possession of
marijuana and cocaine.

1979 – Jessi Colter and husband Waylon Jennings become the proud

when Starr crashes his car into two lamp posts at 60 mph after
