Hi Steve. As Joe has explained, much better than I am able to, you are already using most of the pump-power to heat the pool. The problem is that is not making much difference. Assuming you are running the 2hp pump at full power, then it should consume somewhat around 1500W. If we also assume that 90% of this power heats the water by friction and other losses, then we are left with only 1350W.
To heat 30.000gallons of water by only one degree Centigrade with this power, would then take a very long time. To calculate how long it takes to heat some material with a given power and efficyency, the following formula can be used: hours = (litres*specificmass*specificheat*degreesCentigrade)/(Watts*efficiency*0.86) In this case: (113550*1*1*1)/(1500*0.9*0.86) = 97.9hours!! (I assume we have US gallons here at 3.785litres/gallon) Best Regards. Thor. >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 09/16/05 1:40 PM >>> Thanks for responding Michael! I have a 30,000 gallon pool and, according to the manufacturer, the water should be circulated 6-8 times a day through the filter (minimum of 8 hours). I really don't know how much power that could generate. As it is now, the electric pump only circulates the water. Thank you.
