I have approached this idea of using the excess return pressure from the pump of my swimming pool in the following manner:
Any one can verify that once you overcome the friction loss in your filter and in the return pipe system, you still have quite a bit of a pressure at the discharge of each return at the pool. Well, anyone could use a portion of that pressure at the returns to run a picoturbine and perfectly generate about 200 Watts or more for 8 hours (Recommended for proper maintenance) which would be enough to help charge your battery at night as a backup to a 200 Watt Photovoltaic System for instance. This method is used in industry as an energy recovery in Reverse Osmosis where high pressure of the reject flow is conveyed to a Pelton Turbine.
