So am I right in assuming you don't see any progress toward becoming more civilized over our span? That we are just repeating old patterns well spoken about in literature and art over and over?
I can grant certain psychic/psychological/spiritual patterns that we repeat until we learn better but I see advancement in that as well. We're like a snake biting our own tail when it comes to behavior patterns but that snake gets longer and fatter each cycle round. I see that growth as progress as in moving forward. That snake doesn't just run around itself at one place, it moves in 360 degrees from where we first saw it. But we are getting better at handling this amazing adventure of becoming more human (it seems to me) in spite of this 'veneer of civilization' we hold so gingerly because on another level we know a lot of it is a pretense, a denial.
