So far back that one of my undergrad mentors was a key proponent of 
epigenetics.  Cheating in science is a bigger problem than admitted - and 
frankly encouraged in practical examinations (work out theoretical yields 
and subtract 1.5% for 'plausibility').  I don't think we need science for 
religion - just to be able to look in the hat as Molly says.  All of us, I 
guess, are so far away from crusade/jihad religionists killing each other 
as to have entirely different ways of argument.  The most neglected science 
is probably anthropology, especially as we might look into the hats of our 
own societies' primitive or Undead 'traditions'.
