Here's a response I made to someone on list about this a while back:

Do you get lots of foam bits coming out of your dash vents? Could be
that the heater blend door that controls airflow around the heater core
is deteriorating. The door is a metal flap with holes in it covered
with foam. When the foam gets old, it falls off (gets blown out the
vent and hits you in the face) and air goes through the holes in the
door, instead of getting blown around the core.

Solution: pull your center console and take off the front cover of the
heater box (mine was held on by 2 white, plastic thumbscrews), tear off
all the foam from that door and cover it in duct tape. Don't touch the
heater core while you're doing this, or you'll get branded wiht the
little fin pattern if it's hot.

Laters,
Brian
