Take off your intake boot and look at your air plate. Even with the stock paper filter I bet your airplate is covered in motor oil from the engine crankcase breather. The slight bit of K&N oil that mixes with the sludge that's already there won't contribute to the air plate dying. Besides, A2 cars like ours don't even have mass airflow sensors. Those didn't come about till the Vr6 motor.
