Unlikely, since I haven't changed its configuration at all since two 
days ago, when everything worked.

icmp wouldn't be used by the DNS protocols, would it?

I went to a local coffee shop and downloaded the Debian packages I need 
to install my own caching DNS server on my AMD-64.  Now to transfer them 
to the right machine and install.  Let's see if this helps any.
