You might want to try using a different dns on your gateway, rather than whatever your provider gives you. What is your provider, btw? I'm guessing it's dsl something? But you can try opendns, or google's dns, or 4.2.2.1 if you think there's a problem... easy enough to change /etc/resolv.conf on your gateway and see if that improves things. Could also be a flaky modem, watch your status light and see if that goes out when the net goes down, although if open connections stay open, then maybe not. The other thing is maybe your router is flaky.
