You need to drive one or two to get an idea of what you're dealing with. I
ended up with two - a +8 (with 4-litre V8 and negligible ground clearance -
avoid potholes and speed bumps) and a 4/4 4-seater with the 1600 CVH engine,
which will clear most speed bumps. The handling of the 4/4 is much sweeter,
the Ford 5-speed gearbox is very smooth, but the grunt of the +8 puts it in
a totally different class. Both have a firm ride, despite fitting Konis.
Which do I prefer? Depends what I want to do or what mood I'm in. I've
driven several others and was most impressed by the 3-litre Roadster, which
had better performance, handling, fuel consumption and ride than my +8. But
I kept stalling it when starting from rest, as it has no torque available at
idle, unlike the V8 and the CVH.
When it comes to giving kids rides round the circuit at the Grampian
Transport Museum, they all prefer the 4-seater, though they love the look of
the +8. They even prefer it to a burning Lamborghini (last week's little
excitement).
And by the way folks, for any of you lucky enough to be in Scotland this
week, it is our famous Summer NE Noggin at the Mash Tun in Aberlour on
Friday, on the eve of the local Highland Games. We shall be arriving 6.30
onwards. Let me know if you are coming and wanting to eat as the place is
very popular and they need to know in advance. Food, beer and the collection
of vintage Glenfarclas on offer are all highly recommended - not just by
your resident gourmet (or was that gourmand?) but also by the very lovely
Julia Bradbury on her Railway Walks. They also do accommodation, which has
been rated highly by several MSCC members who have stayed there.

Owen.

I think Richard is over doing the stiffness bit, I have driven a number of
performance cars over the last 20 years from various marques and have to
say that the Morgan can be relatively comfortable if set up right. In fact
some modern sports cars are quite harsh in comparison especially when on
rough road or in badly maintained town roads.

I don't think there is much difference between the rides in Mogs, you
need a good relationship with your dentist whichever. Softer shocker
settings, lower tyre pressures will help a bit in ride comfort, as will
softer seat cushions. But you don't buy a Mog for comfort. Best to join a
local group, noggins as we call them, and chat to owners. The difference
between models is more down to engine and width, not comfort.
Others may say I am talking total tosh, but I hope that I have at least
helped answer your question. Don't hesitate to come back here though

Hi Terry, and welcome to the world of Morganeering! Morgan are in the
process of introducing rising rate springs for the front suspension of
the
trad cars, this vastly increases ride comfort. I think it's going to be
available on all the cars, so it's probably best to check with your
dealer.

Hi Everyone,
Not sure that I'm in the right place, but I'm thinking of buying a
Morgan
and am looking for a bit of advice from an impartial source.
I've just sold my Caterham R500 - I got really fed up with the
ridiculous
performance, uncomfortable ride and strapping myself into a
4-point-harness
[I'm not getting any younger or lighter!!].
I'm looking for the most comfortable ride possible [especially when
cruising at around 70 mph] and for something that will age gracefully
with
me!!
I would really appreciate your thoughts on the most appropriate model
for
me - the obvious options seem to be between the 4/4 and the Plus 4.
Any help would be appreciated.
Terry Holland.
