dmb says:
By analogy, I've said there are seven continents and you've construed that to
mean that I deny the existence of nations. Saying the four levels display an
increasingly dynamic function is not to say there aren't increasingly dynamic
functions within the levels.

Hi David,
Again, this is very lame. What has been, has been.
When ever i advanced a spectrum of dynamic patterns you responded that the
hierarchy of four levels do the job. Period. No further comment. End of. Final.

You?never?asked the?germane question: 'What more than four levels and Dynamic
functions do you want?'
That would have been on the money.

dmb:
Okay, now I see what the grudge is all about. Look, I'm sorry your Liverpool
address didn't make it into the movie. But it wasn't my choice and in all
fairness you can hardly blame Anthony for leaving it out. If memory serves,
nobody understood it. You can try to trash me, the movie, the conference and
Ant
if that makes you feel better but maybe you should also think about why nobody
understood what you were saying. And what would you do if it were your movie
and
had to decide whether or not to include such a speech? I don't blame you for
being disappointed. Who wouldn't be? But its not an anti-Squonk conspiracy,
just
a reasonable choice for a movie about quality.

s: I don't have a grudge regarding being left out of the dvd.
I knew as soon as i revealed Anthony's plagiarism that that would most likely
happen.

I've been told what happens when Anthony becomes upset, and it ain't a pretty
sight from the accounts i've heard.
It's not what one?may describe as the reaction associated with a Buddhist for
example. Not that i regard Anthony?to be?a Buddhist. I don't know what he is.

I understand this may be hard for you understand, but i don't give a damn about
being in or out of the dvd. I could not care less. I don't have a home movie of
my graduation, and i didn't even attend my MA graduation. I don't have an image
of me wearing my cap and gown from either occasion: Not interested.

You will understand that nobody is an absolute, as in, nobody lives to be
10,000 years old.
If nobody understood the thing, why did?Anthony comment that i had advanced the
moq in a small way?

So, at least one person seems to have not only understood it, but read it in
advance of my presenting it and approved it.
I don't remember Anthony saying, 'Well, i haven't got a clue what you are on
about, but hell! Let's go with it. I bunged it into my PhD after all!'
Doesn't really add up does it David?

The advancing the moq?comment was conveyed to me by Anthony himself when he
came to visit one day as i manned the Institute of Popular music vinyl library
at the University of Liverpool.
That's good enough for me, not because Anthony said it, but because?i know he
doesn't say things like that without getting a nod from Pirsig first. Not on
the occasion of informing me he wants it in his PhD thesis.
Get me drift comrade?
Like, you're onto that are you mate?
Yeah you are.

That's not bad at all. It made it into his PhD thesis and Pirsig proof read it
and all the rest of it.
For all i know Pirsig made the comments himself?
I don't know.
I don't need a dvd of me sweating and nervous banging on about it.

However, i do concede that after the Quality in the New Millennium paper it may
be that Pirsig simply says everything he reads or hears?is good because he's a
nice man who does not wish to be in any sense negative?
I don't know.
I have to wonder though.

Besides that, i've had personal correspondence which has also expressed a good
deal of interest.
At one time, Gavin said we may need it. Paul Turner stated that 'it's the sort
of thing Pirsig would have done if he had more time.' That may be too much;
Paul is a generous guy.

The idea that reality is in tension comes from Heraclitus, and i believe
Heraclitus uses the bow as a simile. In this sense, the bow i used was a visual
metaphor. Pirsig isn't stupid David, even if you?do your best?to look that way:

I've known for many years now that i will not get any where with you. I've
witnessed so much Dog in the manger that i can't expect anything else.

I am happy to state this: I think Pirsig's reaction to your mention of Orpheus
was totally sincere. You hit a nerve there. I congratulate you on your insight
and remarkable depth of perception; To have come at this from a completely
different angle and to have coincided with Pirsig's experience of it is
testament to the degree to which you understand his thinking. I believe the
term genius has been applied?
And little wonder; there is unequivocally no circumstance which can suggest you
had advance knowledge of Pirsig's experience in this regard.
Well, when i say unequivocally.

When?we left the building in which?we gave our presentations in Liverpool?i
walked up to you on the pavement (sidewalk), shook?your hand and congratulated
you. Stephanie Omste was there from California and witnessed this. I believe
others witnessed it also?
I was happy to do this because this is the kind of person i am.
