By way of example - nothing personal honest, you're not alone - but your suggestion, (by responding to my comment) that I don't (take that seriously) - is part of the lack of respect / rules / freedoms / responsibilities problem that I have a real problem with.
I certainly agree with that. There is probably some value in DMB's Nietzsche style approach sometimes, i.e. suggesting that you suspect certain motives behind your opponents views, but only when you hit the nail on the head. If you miss too often it just obscures and confuses and stiffles progress. I think the quality of debate would improve if we spent more time trying to understand the other's point of view and digging down to where our values and assumptions do really differ below the surface.
