To all: I, like many Americans had the privilege of experiencing history yesterday. In fact it was the first time that I had the privilege in voting in a presidential election as a US citizen. It was truly amazing. This evening I took the time read the various posts and also took the time reread Obama's acceptance speech. At first I wanted to attempt to take the DQ/SQ scalpel and attempt to dissect it, intellectual & social etc.. Then I found myself putting the scalpel down and just reading it.
Then a number of things dawned to me as I also thought about the recent posts on reason=SOM and the Congratulations to America. There has been an issue I have followed over time on MD that has been rehash on Bodvar's SOM as intellect claim. That if intellect is religated to SOM and does not include MOQ but rather MOQ overshadows, "The MOQ is "out of SOM",how is that possible? Well part of the reason I put the scalpel down was that it really wasn't needed. You see when we discuss intellect = SOM the historical question is when it occur, there is general concensus that it happened sometime around the Greeks of Aristotle's day or shortly before. The reason = SOM could bring up the question of that reason existed ages long before Greeks and Aristotle. But it was Aristotle's SOM that created the static latch that evolved out of philosophy realm into scientific realm. Old news. Intellect today is all around us and we know it. We also knew just as Pirsig implied in ZMM that we today know that innately that Rationally or Intellect does not fully address the reality we want to understand. Then I read Ron praise of Ham's statement that "Ultimate reality is not defined by either SOM or MOQ. It is not subject or object, relations or difference, but is the "potentiality for difference"" This is so true but there is a hitch, we have as a natural intellectual habit, wish to extrapolate meaning from ultimate reality, and when we do so, urgo goes ultimate reality. We use the metaphysical scalpel, whether SOM or MOQ to further define and garner deeper meaning. As I read Obama speech, (I also watched it last night as well) it is rich in both social and intellectual values. It also possessed and embraced a certain dynamic quality as well as he talked about hope and change for a better tomorrow. Small side note, there are those individuals who lack common intellectual background (perhaps those have extremest radical Ilsamic background), the speech would have little meaning at all. The point I wanted to make was that if we approach his speech strictly a intellectual basis, dissecting it into intellect or social values it's quality is compromised, though some additional meanings might be noted. Intellect is perhaps not enough. By approaching it to include MOQ and both stactic and dynamic quality we understand it to even a greater capacity. Even if someone doen't know about MOQ they innate know that there is dynamic and static qualities. If we experienced as, many of us who watched it, we experienced it as "Ultimate Reality" which sometimes is the coolest reality. As to what does the future with Obama bring? Hard to say, but for today many are hopeful. For the past 8 years of yesterdays America has not been its finest. But it is certain that our challenges of tomorrow will require the wisest use of our intellect both SOM = Intellect and MOQ = Neo intellect. I will end with an excerpt from Obama's speech. "To those -- to those who would tear the world down: We will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security: We support you. And to all those who have wondered if America's beacon still burns as bright: Tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope. That's the true genius of America: that America can change. Our union can be perfected. What we've already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.
