Kieffer Odigaunt, All.

You are a Londoneer (at least alias Peter Corteen) Have you
noticed the advertisments on buses about God's eventual
nonexistence? This brings me to the question why only the
Western culture has developed what is called skepticism?

I don't know of any other religion/cultures that has such a schism.
There surely are secular Jews and ditto Muslims but these just
seem indifferent to religion, not out to debunk it like the scientific
skeptics constantly are. There allegedly flourished a Muslim
science while Europe was in its Medieval hibernation, but why did
there not develop a Muslim skepticism? And there are lots of
Jewish scientists, but none seem on the warpath re. Judaism.

IMO, this underpins MOQ's about the struggle between intellect
and society that has raged since the Greeks and moreover
underpins my thesis that Christendom is heavily influenced by
intellect and split along the said axis while its origin - Judaism and
its close Semitic relative Islam - are solidly inside the social level.

Our recent confrontation with Muslims has caused a strange
reaction in this country (Norway) The "old testament" (social level)
Christians reject their faith and won't have mosques or "hijab"
headscarves incorporated police, military or any other uniforms
while the intellectual who normally is hostile towards (Christian)
religion and ought to be more so re. Islam feel called upon to be
liberal and suddenly pro religious "signs"

Well, let me not stray, the issue was the intellect vs society
struggle showing itself in the Western culture's unique
faith/skepticism dichotomy, that to my knowledge is unknown to all
other cultures I don't know about any upheaval caused by Darwin's
theory in Judaism and Islam that I believe has the same Genesis
in their holy books.
