DMB,

I read this and Bodvar's response and I was very interested in your
line of thinking. I won't necessarily take side, other to say that
Bodvar's responses (as well as yours) always make me think a bit
deeper about MOQ/SOM/ and intellect and what it means. I have long
advocated that getting to the bottom of this question about intellect
is and I believe that some day we will get there.

DMB: It is extremely frustrating because you tend to dismiss every
credible explanation and every voiced objection and apparently it
doesn't matter that these explanations come from the author, the only
guy in the world with a Ph.D. in the MOQ or from a Master's student
like me. Why is this not good enough for you? How do you figure that
you know better than people who've actually studied philosophy? It
probably seems outrageous for me to say something like this, but
Jesus, how about a little humility, a little deference? I suppose it's
not impossible but what are the chances that Pirsig, McWatt and I are
all wrong about the MOQ while you alone understand it? I'd say the
chances are pretty damn slim.

Mati: Hmmm.... I think that Bodvar's situation is similar to Pirsig
when he first stated on this journey. He was alone and the majority
of the academic world steeped in SOM discredited Pirsig as well. I
would suggest that academic bully pulpit isn't where the truth is.
MOQ as a philosophical basis has been and continues to be pinned by a
similar bully pulpit In the end the truth is found in our own
humanity and our capacity to understand ourselves. It might be a small
consolation that with my own doctorate I have long suggested that
Bodvar has made the most personal sense to me with SOL. No I lack the
personal philosophical background to play in the big leagues as both
you and Ant. but Bodvar has been an underdog that has held his own and
I respect that.

DMB
And what, by contrast, have you brought to the table? As far as I can
tell, nothing but a weird little pet theory that doesn't make sense,
that nobody in a position to know can agree with. To be less than kind
about it, this borders on the delusional. Thus, you're freaking me
out.

Mati: Hmmm.... I consider you one of the best in so much of what you
have contributed to MD. But again I would caution you with the broad
discrediting brush you use to suggest Bodvar has not brought anything
to the table. The fact remains I can't think of anybody who has
stirred the pot better, on the issue of intellect, than Bodvar. It
remains, in my mind, to be seen if he can be discredited by arguement
alone, I have sincerely consider many of the arguements over the years
and as long time fan of Pirsig work and many others contributions on
MD, I personally believe that his SOL has not been knocked out yet.
But keep dishing it out. :-)
Mati
