Platt to Andre:
Pirsig presents his reasons for supporting free market capitalism in Chapter
17 of Lila. To answer your question I suggest you read what he wrote there.
I can add nothing. To me his explanation is complete.

and continues:
Americans enjoy a very high standard of living. It's a special place to live
because it more open to Dynamic Quality than socialist countries. Pirsig
cites the dynamism of New York City as an example:...'

Andre:
This is a bit disappointing Platt 'cos I can quote Pirsig a little further:
'The end of the twentieth century in America seems to be an intellectual,
social and economic rustbelt...' (Lila, p310).

How do you reconcile (as you claim), Pirsig's support for free market
capitalism and his 'verdict' of America being a 'rustbelt' ?

Is Mr. Pirsig contradicting himself?

Have the commies slipped through and sabotaged things between Chapter 17 and
page 310?

and continues:
Property rights -- the right to keep what you lawfully earn -- is the
foundation of individual liberty. Those who are forcibly prevented from
keeping what they earn are slaves.

Andre:
I don't understand what you mean here...if you do not get to keep what you
earn you are a slave?

Come on Platt. This is not a point scoring exercise. The world is too full
of ego's that screw things up as it is. My questions are ligitimate and
fair.
