Quality makes us invent earth. Arlo's happy. Quality forms heavens, trees, stones and oceans. Arlo is still happy. Quality makes gods, now Arlo's pissed. Arlo is willing to believe in earth, trees, stones and oceans, music arts and philosophy. Arlo is willing to call all these analogues reality. There's only one thing in Pirsig's list that Arlo is not willing to call real. I think Arlo has a grudge. But how can you have a grudge against something that doesn't exist? I think Arlo is confused. > > "Quality is the continuing stimulus which our environment puts upon us to > create the world in which we live." We comprehend gravity through "down" and "up", we comprehend Quality through "good" and "bad". SOM says up and down are real, but good and bad are just random subjective opinion. Arlo seemingly agrees with SOM, from what I've seen. > > Maybe once you understand this, you'll start to see this more clearly. > > From LILA: "They do not just change valuelessly. The postulation that this force pulling toward good does not actually "pull", but simply exists seems ridiculous to me. Man's freedom is his in orientation toward Quality's "up and down". But hey, I seem to be working this too hard. The urge to convert arises in response to ego, not DQ. DQ works not by force, but by acceptance - going with the natural intrinsic flow of the cosmos and stop fighting it. The watercourse way.
