Wow. Never has one post threaded together so many squawking points so
succinctly. As for "the intellectual integrity of the entire
scientific edifice" being threatened, well, only in the minds of
right-wing anti-intellectuals for whom it was already The Great
Enemy. I mean, this would be like saying the "entire edifice of
Christianity's integrity is abolished" when Jimmy Swaggart got busted
doing coke with a whore. Or the "intellectual integrity of the
Republican party" was threatened when Larry Craig got busted trying
to arrange a homosexual bang in an airport bathroom. I'd say its
grossly out of proportion, but again, for those who base their
ideology on anti-intellectualism, its expected.
