I wonder if money (or love of it) is essentially the problem. 
When a parent orders you to clean your room, it is a chore. 
When you do it because you value the result, it isn't so much a chore.  (No 
money involved.) 
For me it's a matter of values.  Some people have no problem working for money, 

and prefer being an employEE rather than an employER--for others, 

it is the other way around.
