(And to pick up on Dave's own point ... you'd have to agree your rhetorical point was against him and his style, rather than the "professional" point of relating James and Rorty to Pirsig, which ... rather unconvicingly ... you said you didn't actually care about. I'm not "defending" Dave's style - I get the rough end of it often enough myself - just crediting his particular objective.
