Platt, I agree, but do not blame science for the problem. There seems to me to be a bureaucratic control issue, whereby academic, political manipulation of science and the fruits of science subvert the open and honest inquiry of many good men and women into the nature of nature.
I still think your old friend Arlo had a good point about the combination of narrow capitalistic ownership of intellectual quality having unforseen effects on the evolution of society.
