Instead he is inextricably bound to the laws of nature, just as are earth's evolution and the planetary orbits. His choices of good over evil are meaningless, since his behavior will necessarily follow the cosmic program. How does this differ from the "materialistic doctrine" disparaged by Pirsig? It's not matter that controls the universe, it's an adjective called "Quality".

Not that I do not want to but the corrections to make to this paragraph alone would require me to write two books to introduce you to a view of reality that will blow your mind. You have done this, among other ways, through appeals to qualitative statements that defy your own convictions and assert and enforce the approach taken through MOQ glasses. Yet, you are not even aware of this...at least you have not acknowledged them. Yet, you keep on spouting your stuff. You are becoming, in my humble view, a distraction. You are not innocently wielding your essence anymore. You are pushing questions and forcing answers to undermine the MOQ in your warped way and then fill in the vacancies by filling these answers into your 'essential' way...and then challenging MOQ contributors to affirm/deny these! The problem is: the answers are thrown up by the inadequacies of your own (SOM) system and not really relevant to an MOQ perspective.
