I think it is similar to Spinoza's notion of freedom as following God's
will. Only God is truly free, so paradoxically we can only be free if we
chain ourself to God.
I think Augustine and Meister Eckhart would like this line much. I love
Spinoza's simple, lovely reasoning that we are in direct contact with
reality, since if it took forever we'd never get there.
