Only naive readings of Pirsig and evolution have that problem.

The shit happening is random only from a pre-deterministic perspective
- ie the individual initiating dynamic disturbances "have a life of
their own" - where these lead - towards "progress" - is a feature of
the loopy processes - loops across multiple levels with ratchets to
reduce reversals.
