I'm still concerned by the fact that releases are driven by dates rather
than features and stability. I don't really think we can claim to have a
complete mozilla1.0 until it has some key features. The ones I'm burning for
are html4.01, xhtml1.0, xslt, css1, stable and fast mailnews.
The last time this dicussion was brought up it was put off because someone
(don't remember who) wasn't able to compile a list of features for
mozilla1.0 because there was too much pressure to get netscape6.0 out on the
streets. Now that it's out there is no reason not to compile such a list,
publish it in NG's and on mozilla.org to be debated by the mozilla
community.
If there is such a need to have stable releases every quarter (or whatever
timeinterval) then lets call them 0.7.x where x is increased every release
and once we think there is enough increase in functionallity lets start at
0.8.x and later 0.9.x and finally 1.0. But I sort of get the idea that it's
really Netscape that want theese quarterly realeses and not the rest of the
community, but I could be complealy wrong in this.
Ok, I'm gonna go out on really deep water here so if I'm totally wrong feel
free yell back:
I'm also concerned by the fact that right after the ns6.0 release much
rearchitecturing in many places. I'm all for rearchitecturing but are theese
things aimed for netscape7.0 or mozilla1.0? [EMAIL PROTECTED] has aimed
the mozilla1.0 release for Q2 2001, will theese things be done by then or
are we gonna be halfway through the transfer by then? Don't get me wrong
here, I love rearchiteturing stuff, it often solves tremendously more
problems then the bugs it produces, but the commuitys (includeing Netscape)
goal should now be mozilla1.0.
Hope I wasn't too provoking, if anybody feel I'm way off then flame on : )
