My personal feelings about being around armed individuals, in uniform or not,
and gun control policies in general, are probably not relevant topics for
this list. The issue of police officers bringing their guns into Minneapolis
schools is a different matter. To try to put a positive spin on it, imagine
the following exchange between students and a D.A.R.E. presenter:

Little Johnny: "Gee, Officer Swenson, can we see your gun?"

Officer Swenson: "Sorry, son, no guns are allowed in your school. Your
teachers and principal want to make sure this is a safe place for kids to
come to learn, and safety rules are important for ALL of us to follow."

Little Johnny: "Gosh!"

Slightly off topic - When I was in Paris a couple of years ago my teenage
daughter and I found ourselves alone in a subway station, waiting for a
train. Suddenly three men came into the station wearing camoflage fatigues,
with rifles slung over their shoulders. We assumed/hoped they had something
to do with the military establishment, and weren't crazy terrorists - but
being strangers in a foreign country, could not be sure...
