City Ordinances As a person that quite frequently needs to look up city ordinances in varying places I like the outside source having them since I have one location to go for ordinances rather than search through city websites for that information. www.Municode.com is the site I use, and while their setup may not be the greatest, it is consistent. This is not something I can say about city websites. I have learned how to work my way through Municode's site to find what I need. It would take me much longer, and it has, to find what I need ordinance wise on city websites. Milwaukee is one I found very frustrating to locate particular ordinances on. I got this site from an Architect (local) and ask from time to time who they use and I almost always get the same answer. I understand that using Municode probably costs Mpls money, not sure how much, but for people that search ordinances regularly, its a great tool. I would not be fond of the idea of Mpls saving a few bucks and then not doing a good job with their ordinances like they have with so much else that has been brought up wrong with their site. Tim Bonham writes: About the City Ordinances on the Minneapolis website, I agree with all the other comments that the current system where it is farmed out to some group (no doubt for a high price) is extremely hard to use -- almost worthless. (And that outside website actually uses the antiquated frames technology! Most smart web developers stopped using frames about 1996.) At least the city web site could have a link to a downloadable text version of the entire city ordinances. Then I could download that and search it myself. But I expect their contract with this outside vendor prohibits that. REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
