Mark Snyder tells us that 1.9 million PEOPLE went to Twins games and 620,000 went to Vikings games.
That means that if each of the Twins fans donated $160, they could own a stadium. $500 for the Vikings fans. Outright ownership, Something they could leave to the kids or sell. They would get a proportionate share of the rent paid by the team, should repay them in a few years... What's that? There really weren't 1.9 million individuals who went to Twins games? Of course, there is no tracking those who buy at the gate. How many season tickets are sold? Multiply that by (number of home games - 1) to get the number you subtract from the 1.9 million in an attempt to get the true number of individuals who went to the game. Then do the same with an appropriate multiplier for 90 games, 50 games, 25 games, 10 games, 5 games, etc. to see how many individuals attended. Then scale up the purchase price appropriately. You still get an amount that's easily handled by a loan from a sports-minded banker, like Pohlad. The Vikings amount is higher, but they pay so much more per ticket, they can pay more to buy a share of the stadium. To head off Mark calling me "anti-sports", I'll say that I am pro-sports indifferent. I don't care whether you watch, attend, or whatever. I don't want to pay for your fun. I also don't go to the Guthrie or Block E. I do attend a portion of Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra concerts. But they raised the money to build Ordway privately, although using some type of state? bond for lower interest (which was paid off by the private donations.) I keep hearing that it's SO HARD for the Twins to get good players because Pohlad doesn't make enough money off the team. But they've been in the playoffs twice now. The Vikings JUST want to be average for profits in the league. They seem to be able to buy good enough players to get to 6-0 this year. The trouble with wanting to have average profits is that raising the Vikings and the other below-average teams to average, is that the average now becomes higher and Red will continute to spout about being below average. The only way for all teams to have average profits is for all teams to have the same profit. In other words, full profit sharing. Total profits and losses for all teams added together and divided by the number of teams.
