Stadium: Didn't Rybak say in the article that the city didn't have the funding? I thought the whole idea was that a countywide funding instrument would be used. The plan they have proposed doesn't leave any surface parking
(as opposed to what is there now) and leverages existing infrastructure like the municipal ramps, I394, and LRT as connection points. Also, a well designed baseball stadium (Wrigley Field)can definitely add to the neighborhood. I would also argue that the Rapid Park site surface lots do constitute blight in a downtown urban environment. What a terrible place to walk through right now! Are Minneapolis residents really against a ballpark in Minneapolis or are they just against the funding coming directly from their city? I think a distinction needs to be made since these are two different things.
