Well, the problem is that odds are this undemocratic selection was made for undemocratic motives. Cities thru history are corrupt - run by or certainly for the rich elite, at the expense of everyone else. Since the record is uniformly so bad, we are justified in suspecting rats everywhere - dirty deals, sellouts, betrayals, broken promises, exploitation of the city and the citizens - all for the benefit of a few rich exploiters. Pick any city you want, any time, anywhere - including Mpls now. The press should be following this with muckracking jounnalists trained to follow the money and the bad smells. But it won't, because the exploiters advertise, and play golf with them at the country club, and intermarry witht the top local media owners. Expect press ignorance, noncoverage, corporate frosting fairytales, dumping on critics. That's also traditional everywhere everytime. The press lies and covers up to protect its friends and clients. All of which is a lead in to: watch the park board five like a hawk week in and week out - odds are they will try to put national corporate franchises into the parks, trade good park land for toxic sites, turn the land over to developers to put up million dollar housing with TIF from the citizens. The elite sees the park land as a resource to be exploited (and ruined in the process) for the third yacht or the grande party. That's the problem - we elect these betraying bozos, and then we have to watch their every move or they'll stick it to us. In other words, this gang of 5 looks like permanant treachery and betrayal. Watch them, or watch your parks fade and die. We have no obligation to trust them. They are supposed to be our servants, not our masters. We have the rights, not them. --David Shove Roseville REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules? Email the list manager at [EMAIL PROTECTED] before continuing it on the list. 2.
