I have determined that after talking with some of the media that's been
covering the whole LRT Parking issues I am rather disappointed. Rather
than really mention what's most important: that Metro Transit should be
proactive in solving this problem since they created it; the media would
rather sensationalize the anger of neighbors and make it appear like we
are against public transportation. Even KSTP; they came to my door last
night and asked if I would talk to them about what I expected with the
Vikings game happening. As I told them that Metro Transit needs to be
proactive, and that since evolving public transportation has to happen;
the solutions have to happen. They never aired any of that. Last
night with the first Vikings game happening; it was ugly on my street.
The people coming to park were trying to fit their big cars into small
spaces even actually hitting some of the resident's cars. They were
boxing in people so tight I really could not believe it. I understand
that parking was as high as $30 downtown; spending $1.25 or so was and
should be a much more appealing choice. However the sports events bring
a whole different crowd to the neighborhood; and it's not really warm
and cozy. I could not understand why with the existing accelerating
problem why there was not someone from Metro Transit on my block handing
out bus schedules or directing people where to park, or asking them
where they live and giving them ideas about how to use public
transportation. Being even the smallest bit proactive would be gigantic
to the neighbors. And the media is not even mentioning Metro Transits
responsibility in all of this. I look to both Metro Transit for solving
this issue, and to the local media to really exploring the problem
instead of the anger of the neighbors.
