It looks like I'll be away from my computer for a couple of days -- a rarity -- and just have time to make a quick note.
If I could put the issue of transportation into a nutshell focused on Minneapolis, it would be this: we need to use the precious energy resources we have now to leverage ourselves into a transportation system that: -- is far more energywise -- is far more land-use wise -- pollutes far less -- does not rely on or promote war for fuel -- is largely sustainable using local/bioregional resources Our current system is an "energyblack hole," sucking huge quantities of energy through unjust economic structures, which is then largely wasted on vehicles and an huge infrastructure which is not sustainable now, and which will require more far violence to keep it going in the future. We have huge financial resources and terrific scientific resources -- even right here in Minneapolis. We can create a healthy, sustainable transportation system. We must reject the current paradigm and create a new one. -- Running, not walking, from my computer! -- Gary Hoover REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
