Gary, Commuting data is provided by the census bureau in the category "Economic Characeristics." Which is where the city of Minneapolis also reports the data. The direct link to the data is: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/citywork/planning/Census2000/2000-Mpls-ProfileofSelectedEconomicCharacteristics.asp Bruce Gaarder from Highland Park in St. Paul where 9% of the people parking near LRT stations commute from writes: > Randall Cutting may have misinterpreted the census figures when he says > that 73% of workers drive cars in the city. > I believe that those figures are for Minneapolis residents who work and > drive, not all people who work in Minneapolis. Remember what you read > here about all of "the suburbanites who drive to work in the city." Bruce, Lets see what I wrote: > Jim Bernstein wrote: >> As long as we are on the subject, I think it is worth noting that as >> much as I respect Gary's passion, the automobile is still the primary >> mode of transportation for something like 93% of the adults in the seven >> county metro. So then I write "In Minneapolis..." and go on to refer to the City of Minneapolis web site. If this posting on the Minneapolis Issues List is confusing to people in St. Paul I apologize. However, I made no reference to the greater metropolitan area so no misinterpretation and no misrepresentation was made. It appears to me that the misinterpretation may have been on the part of Bruce Gaardner. Randall Cutting Seward REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
