Condos are a sign of the times in my opinion. They take away from the "historical fabric" of communities. No backyard fence banter. No getting to know your neighbors.

There must be a happy medium, somewhere between the barn-raisings I used to partake-in in the farming community I grew-up in and the sterile environment of condos and apartment dwelling. Or, have we truly become a society that places no value on "social benefits"?

It scares me to death. Travel to a suburb in a 3rd world country in central, or south america and a HUGE emphasis is placed on communal support of the neighborhood. Recently, I have spent a few weeks in a neighborhood in Lima, Peru. At 5:30 am EVERY morning, designated "neighbors" sweep the community sidewalks, water the foliage planted on the common boulevards and local parks and generally work to improve the appearance of their community in general. In my opinion, we're losing ground in our sense of "self" and how we fit into the "bigger scheme of things" in the U.S. in general and Minneapolis specifically. Pretty soon, we'll all wake-up and find-out that we all care about nothing in particular.

In my opnion, the trend towards more condos are just one more barrier to "civilized living" in Minneapolis.
