PostScript is an interpreted language (like BASIC) created by Adobe which's
used as standard in DTP and professional publishing. It's built-in in
firmware in all laser printers.
It has stack based execution (like FORTH), LOTS of operators (including
JPEG decoding!!!) and it's really powerful, even at nongraphical tasks,
that's why I use it also for audio (!).
All professional publishing software can output PostScript code
downloadable to a laser printer or an expen$$$ive RIP machine (Raster Image
Processor) machine at a publishing bureau.
I HARDCODE my gfx designs rather than using a DTP application to achieve
zero defects and extreme pixel & color accuracy. Is not such a big effort
once you've got a wide library of custom subroutines already available
(text kerning, color spreading, etc.) and it enables you to produce gfx FX
that no DTP program could ever dare to dream of.
Interesting, huh? 8;)
Kiss you lot.
