Okay, now it gets even weirder.  I have some old GemXpresso Pro 64K
cards  lying around.  I just installed the latest applet on them and
they are experiencing the same problems as the new cards.  I don't
know if these are the FIPS/NON-FIPS type of cards.  All I know is that
they say "GemXpresso Pro-Std. 1002" on the bottom of them.

So what you are telling me is that if I get the FIPS type of card, all
my problems will be solved?  If FIPS/NON-FIPS doesn't apply here, how
can I be sure that getting the FIPS card will help anything?
