Sorry, I probably shouldn't characterize this situation as "even
weirder."  I guess it just means that the older cards I have had lying
around are the same kind as the new ones I have.  No wonder I have
been having no end of problems trying to get this stuff to work.  The
problem is that the cards sort of work, but not all the way.
