As for motivation for the request: for a project: I personally I have difficulty understanding the relations between the individual tasks in the *vertical* outline view. ( i know the screenshot is outdated:) http://www.mylifeorganized.net/i/sshots/myLife-ssh001.gif . Especially when multiple subprojects are taking place in the same timewindow.
